Oedmera nobilis (family Oedemeridae) is a common western European flower beetle species. The hind femurs of males appear quite swollen, whereas females (like the one pictured above) lack any femoral thickening. Elytra do not entirely cover the membranous hind wings. Most are bright green, though some individuals may appear blue or violet. Diet consists largely of pollen and nectar. The majority of web entries dealing with this species are based in England, though individuals of this species were abundant on Spanish broom (Spartium junceum, syn. Genista juncea), a perennial evergreen shrub that we encountered throughout southern France.

Oedemeridae here in the south west of the US are difficult to identify – no good literature and probably a bunch of undescribed spp around. But this week we found an interesting one that is endemic to SE Arizona:
