Happy like me! Jumping spider awaiting prey on young milkweed (Asclepias) at Meadowbrook Park, Urbana, IL. Click to enlarge.
Even though the economy is slow, the world of small grants is treating me well!
I’m in the process of making final arrangements to attend a biology-related macrophotography workshop in St. Louis in September. BugShot is a first-of-a-kind weekend workshop that will focus specifically on arthropod macro- and microphotography.
Aimed at entomologists who aspire to improve their photographic skills (√), photographers who wish to learn arthropod-specific techniques (√), and invertebrate bloggers (√ again!), the workshop focuses on 1) macro- and microphotography equipment, 2) digital asset management and workflow, 3) composition, 4) lighting and flash, 5) working with live insects, and 6) special techniques such as focus-stacking, time-lapse and video.
I am moving toward development of an online Field Biology course based in large part on Uni’s current field biology course. Attending this workshop, taught by three of the world’s top arthropod photographers (John Abbott , Thomas Shahan, and Alex Wild) should significantly increase my technical skills, enabling me to improve my knowledge, technique and structure of how I work with images as well as the written components of the online course.
You rock, Dave!!! Congratulations!
I LOVE jumping spiders!! That macro-photograph is amazing.
Thanks, Mary! Rachel, sometimes everything works out the way you’d like. I find I’m still at a point where it seems to take quite a few pictures before I get the image I desire…
