Almost two years ago I purchased two juvenile Mexican red knee tarantulas from Jamie Lessee, owner of Jamie’s Tarantulas. Watching the two grow has been fascinating. I’ve learned a lot about spider biology from them.
They were the first tarantulas I observed molting and have been great eaters, which made working with them quite easy.
Each molt resulted immediately in a significantly larger, much more brightly colored spider.
Thanks to members of Midwest Tarantula Keepers for their assistance in gender determination and Jen Newman, Heartland Invertebrates, for her assistance, advice and humor in helping me better understand tarantula maturation and reproduction.
